Abstract

Kinetic equations are of wide usage. A standing challenge is their derivation from an underlying mechanical model. The focus of my lectures will be on hard spheres at low density, as prime example of a particle model, and on the weakly nonlinear lattice Schroedinger equation, as prime example of a wave equation.

The presentation will be on an introductory level. Helpful would be some familiarity with kinetic equations, classical mechanics, and wave equations.
