Statement on the attack on Ukraine

Bonn, 02.03.2022. Due to the ongoing Russian attack on Ukraine, the International Mathematical Union (IMU) has decided that the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in July will not take place in Saint Petersburg as planned, but will be conducted digitally and the award ceremonies will take place at a different location. The Fachgruppe Mathematik and the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics join the Deutsche Mathematiker-Vereinigung (DMV) in supporting this decision and in expressing sympathy to the Ukranian people while condemning the actions of the Russian government. As by now we will suspend cooperation with research institutions in Russia until further notice. For an indefinite period of time, further invitations to scientists from Russia will be issued only in justified exceptional cases and require the approval of the HCM spokesperson.
