"Math: More than just arithmetic" - during the students' week, we provide young people with three days of intensive insights

Bonn, 02.06.2023. The Hausdorff Center for Mathematics invites students in tenth grade and above to gain exciting insights into mathematics and discover its diversity. The event begins one week after summer vacation on Thursday, August 10, with a lecture and ends with a rally around campus on Saturday, August 12. Registration is open until June 16.

Mathematics offers much more than one would expect in school lessons. Curve discussion and arithmetic cover only a small subset of what is possible. Whether you want to study mathematics or simply enjoy mathematics in your free time, the Pupils' Week, which takes place one week after the summer vacations from August 10 to 12, provides a broad insight into the subject.

We invite math-loving students from the tenth grade onwards to immerse themselves in everyday university life for a short time. In addition to imparting technical knowledge, we also answer questions about studying: What is a lecture, a tutorial or a seminar? Or what do you actually do when you study mathematics? The participants can look forward to exciting lectures, among others on the mathematics of the game "SET", as well as on scales and nomograms. Afterwards, they can apply the lecture contents themselves in small groups in exercises. They will be supported by students.

A rally across the Poppelsdorf campus gives you the opportunity to get to know the university in a completely different way. And don't worry - mathematics will not be neglected here either. In addition, there is a supporting program every day, for example a guided tour of the Arithmeum.
